“Homebody”, 2024
Mixed Media, 10’ x 10’

“Homebody” is a 2d mixed media installation that aims to examine the often contradictory range of emotions associated with the domestic spaces of one’s twenties – isolation, epiphany, growth, connection, intimacy. Visually inspired by themes of girlhood, and particularly the aesthetics of childhood bedrooms, the piece aims to depict the ways in which one grows in private, exploring the idea of solitude as both a source of stagnancy as well as growth, and depicts the fragments of identity that are formed and developed in the spaces we call home.

The installation consists of a series of pastel self portraits, ink sketches, and quotes from diary entries that have been obscured by the images put on display. Through the combination of image and writing, “Homebody” explores how private thoughts, emotions, and collections are formed, filtered, and edited to form public identities.  Homebody was shown at the Worth Ryder Gallery in their 2024 Senior Thesis Exhibition “42 Pending Tasks”.
